Firstly, it was extremely repetitive. The movie showed a group of teens who raided celebrities' houses. However, these raids did not just occur a few times. No. The teens assiduously went into houses to steal stuff throughout the movie and this got extremely dull and predictable. Rather than repeating this motion, they should have spent more time on character development and delving deeper into the subject. As well as that, the script was appalling. While I agree that these suburban wannabee teens do not have much interesting to say, the script was just too much. It consisted of short, dull phrases like, 'Lets go shopping,' in their insufferable, nasal accents.
I was also interested to see Emma Watson in the movie. Many reviews said that she was what made the film good and that she is, 'much more than a pretty face.' While I do not think that she was particularly bad in the movie, she was just pretty average. Her accent was definitely better than in the Perks of Being a Wallflower which was terrible, however, she just did not stand out.
So, is Sofia Coppola a one movie type of director who is not able to go beneath the surface of an idea? Or is she just going through a rough patch in her career?
